| Publishing services For over three decades Philip Wilson has specialised in producing authoritative, finely designed art and illustrated books. The company started as Sotheby's Publications, the publishing arm of the famous auction house, before becoming independent as PWP in 1977.Through the years PWP has produced a succession of major artists' catalogues raisonnées (on Thomas Gainsborough, Wassily Kandinsky, Emil Nolde, Franz Marc, and Edvard Munch, for example), produced fine books for important collectors such as Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, Mr Robert H. Smith, Sir Arthur Gilbert, and many others, and published exhibition catalogues for museums and galleries around the world including the Royal Academy of Arts, London, the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, The Phillips Collection, Washington D.C., The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Victoria & Albert Museum, Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Estorick Collection, Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery, and Fairfax House, York. PWP's exhibition catalogues are very successful in the museum world, being not only records of the exhibitions they accompany but also highly desirable books in their own right. In many cases the initial hardback is followed by a more popular edition using the same colour separations; these can sell in their thousands. Although we have produced books retailing for hundreds of pounds, many of our books are more modestly priced, and yet still just as well designed and lavishly illustrated. One recent best seller, 'Eric Ravilious: Imagined Realities' (£29.95), contains over a hundred colour illustrations. (It was awarded third prize in the Art Newspaper & AXA Art Exhibition Catalogue Award, out of over 200 entrants. Judges commended the book as 'an extremely elegant, satisfying publication.') More recently, the catalogue for 'Maxfield Parrish' (£35), one of the best-known and loved American artists, has been very well received both in the UK and in the US, as has the monograph on the highly respected Spanish artist Joaquìn Sorolla (£40) written by the artist's great granddaughter. Some clients are very specific when commissioning, others choose to leave the format and design of the book to PWP. Whatever your wishes, our long experience in fine art publishing allied to our ability to work to tight time and cost parameters, will ensure that the end result will be first class.Contact us for more information | |
