Qing style furniture began to take shape during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, and demonstrated its highest achievements during the era of Emperor Qianlong (1736-96). Its special style related to the prosperity of the Kangxi-Qianlong era and the successful integration of the minority Manchurian ruler and the majority Han people. Qing dynasty workmanship is also reflected in the intricate design of furniture and other smaller items.

Tian Jiaqing, a major student of Wang Shixiang, the current expert on Qing furniture, has devoted many years to the research and completion of this definitive work.
